Owning Violet by Monica Murphey Review

Rating: 4.5 Fabulous Stars

Synopsis:

New York Times bestselling author Monica Murphy begins a sexy new contemporary romance series—perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Emma Chase—that introduces three sisters born to wealth, raised to succeed, ready to love, destined to make waves.

I’ve moved through life doing what’s expected of me. I’m the middle daughter, the dutiful daughter. The one who braved a vicious attack and survived. The one who devoted herself to her family’s business empire. The one who met an ambitious man and fell in love. We were going to run Fleur Cosmetics together, Zachary and I.

Until he got a promotion and left me in the dust. Maybe it’s for the best, between his disloyalty and his wandering eye. But another man was waiting for me. Wanting me. He too has an overwhelming thirst for success, just like Zachary—perhaps even more so. He’s also ruthless. And mysterious. I know nothing about Ryder McKay beyond that he makes me feel things I’ve never felt before.

One stolen moment, a kiss, a touch . . . and I’m hooked. Ryder’s like a powerful drug, and I’m an addict who doesn’t want to be cured. He tells me his intentions aren’t pure, and I believe him. For once, I don’t care. I’m willing to risk everything just to be with him. Including my heart. My soul.

My everything.

Review:

“I’m yours,” I whisper. “All yours, Ryder. Use me. Fuck me. Hurt me. I don’t care. Just make me yours. Own me.”

*I was given this book for an honest review*

I gave this book 4.5 stars.

I have a confession to make ...

I have a crush on a girl ...

and her name is Violet!

At first we start off meeting Violet and she is meek and really not all that much of someone to like. But then things with her current boyfriend begin to fall apart and she begins to fall apart ... or the meek part of her does. It's almost like watching something crack and break and the pieces begin to fall. But what's beneath is really quite amazing and stronger than what was originally there. We get to see Violet become her own women. She stops living under the pressure of what she has constantly believed everyone has thought she should be ... mostly what Zachary pushed her to be, and what she "thought" her father wanted her to be. Regardless of the sexy, passionate love story that progresses between Ryder and Violet, the story of Violet growing into this sexy, strong, confident woman is enough to read the book for. When you find out how Violet stood up for herself and didn't hide in shame like others encouraged ... just ... wow! I love a strong woman.

“Father didn’t want me to testify. My grandmother didn’t want me to at first either, but I was determined. Alan scared me. I was afraid he’d do this again and again, and keep hurting innocent girls. I couldn’t be responsible for that.”

Then there is this sexy love story between Ryder and Violet. I like Ryder. I love how alpha he is. It's not your typical male lead because he doesn't already own the company like most business love stories go. Also, I thought it would have a strong D/s theme to it and it didn't. It was there, but it was subtle, which almost made it more entertaining and intriguing.

I can’t ignore the trickle of arousal that runs through me at the way he holds me down, his fingers tight around my wrists. That he makes me fear him and want him all at once is so confusing.

I like how honest Ryder was, but I think Violet just kind of didn't take it to mean what he thought it would, which ended up hurting her in the end. There were times where I felt like if Ryder just told Violet the whole truth it would have been easier than adding more twists to the story. But their passion .... sweet baby Jesus ... There was one sex scene ... just ... oh my ... it was one for the record books. It was emotionally passionate and I loved everything about it .... *lights up cigarette*

“Do you want me to touch you?” He presses his lips to my forehead, his hand still gripping my backside. “Do you want me to make you come?” he whispers against my skin.

There were  few points that got repetitive and seemed there just to add more to the story. I got a little tired of Ryder's musing about how he wasn't good enough, but it wasn't too much to bother me. Also, the end was a little quick and a lot unresolved but I'm assuming that is because it will have more about it in book two. Either way ... I loved this story and I loved Violet. She was strong and knew what she wanted when she finally started to reach out and grab what was there. Go get yourself a copy. Enjoy!!

Reaching out and drawing his finger across my lower lip. “Wear something sexy.” “To work?” I’m shocked by his request. And aroused. “Beneath the clothes, Violet. Wear your armor.” He smiles. “And then wear a little something that will slay me underneath it.”
