Storms Over Secrets by J.A. DeRouen Review

Jena: 4.75 Stars
Sanzana:
Promises are lies dressed up for the party.
Secrets poison the fairest of fairy tales.
Lies stain the purest of loves.

I’ve paid the ultimate price for my choices. The tendrils of those sins bind me to my past. The remnants of my love hold me captive.

Then he walks into my life, and makes me believe in second chances. He awakens feelings in me I know I shouldn’t have. I yearn for a future without guilt. With him, I dream of a love untainted.

Regret is a far-reaching emotion. It barrels through time like a blazing comet, and its path isn’t always straight. No matter what I feel, I cannot bring myself to regret the time I’ve spent with Cain.

But it doesn’t mean I can have him.

My name is Celia Lemaire and this is my story of broken promises.

Storms Over Secrets is the third book in The Over Series, a group of interconnected standalone novels.

Jena's Review:

"Promises will be the death of me; this is the one truth I know with complete and utter certainty. I drop my head to the table and touch my forehead to our clasped hands. “I promise,” I whisper."

Here is another book from J.A. Derouen that will go down as an amazing read. She has this way of writing a book that you know you will love, but manages to throw in those twist and turns that keep pulling you in deep for more. I think the thing I loved most about this book was the constant guess of how it will end. How can it end in a way that doesn't destroy you. And isn't that the point of the book? Isn't that what J.A. is trying to portray with Celia? Well, mission accomplished. And I won't give anything away, so I'll stop there with that line of thought. Just know that this book delivers on what is promised.

Now, I was a little worried about reading this book because I LOVE Wings Over Poppies and West is my number one man .... and it's still my favorite ... but dear god, did I love Cain. Oh man ... if I love West for his dark and broody ways, I love Cain for his light and loving ways. I can't think of many male MC that I have read similar to Cain. He is unique in his resilience and downright stubbornness, mixed with his deep caring of everyone. I love that man. He is both extremely sexy and manages to make jokes in every situation without taking away from the sexiness. That was probably my favorite part of the whole book. Just watching the interacting of Celia and Cain; of reading about Cain.

"But there are moments that have marked my life—where an overwhelming sense of clarity washes over me, and a new sense of purpose arises. Like the click of a kaleidoscope bringing everything into focus, or veins of water running down a window to leave a clear pane of glass, these flashes make the pieces of my life fall firmly into place. This … right here and now … is one of those moments. “Remembering? Feeling loss? It’s a normal part of the human condition. I think grieving can be a way for us to stay connected to the ones we’ve lost. Do you know what else is part of the human condition?” A slight head tilt is the only answer she gives me. “Living, Celia. Even in the face of unimaginable loss, it’s okay to live.” - Cain
I love Celia also. I don't think i got a good feel for who she was in the other books and I was so excited to get to know her better in this book. She is so strong and just as sweet as Cain. I really just love the two of these characters together. This story was different in a way that was great. It wasn't typical and it just felt good. I'm rambling and I know I haven't told you much about the story, but I don't want to give anything away .. Just know that the characters are amazing and you will fall in love with them. And the story is awesome!

“There is nothing in this world I want more than to be buried deep inside you. Not. One. Thing. But when I take you, I want to know I’m all you see. No memories, no regrets, no one but you and me. I want you to be all mine, Celia, and when you can do that, that’s when you get all of me. Okay?” - Cain

So why not a full five stars? The romance was a little lacking in the beginning. I felt their friendship grow, but I think that friendship was supposed to be more of a relationship. So when they got together, I will still stuck in a friendship thoughts and not mentally prepared for the depth of their relationship.  But that's okay because I got caught up really quick. One more quick thing about this book. I don't think I have ever... EVER ... read a book that made me FEEL the longing between two characters better than I did in this book. Good gawd! It was palpable and I loved the amount of emotion evoked from me as a reader.

"He’s not my type, like at all, but he’s got his own swagger, ya know? He’s all ‘Oh, I’m so tall. Look at my ginormous green bean,’” Marlo mimics in a deep, husky voice while grabbing her crotch." - Marlo

Finally, I am dying for Marlo's story. I have been wanting her story since Hope Over Fear. I can't freaking wait! Don't miss out on all her other books and get caught up. J.A. Derouen writes in a way I love and keeps me hanging on for more. Enjoy!

Don’t miss this stunning conclusion to the unforgettable love story that captivated over two million fans online
Jena's Review
What do you do when you see someone you love unraveling?
Do you try to stop it?
Of course.

Sexual Tension .... I really feel like I could write that as my review and that would be enough to explain this book. But I'm way too long winded for that! But seriously, this book had so much sexual tension. SOOOOOO Much!! And it was done perfectly and I loved every freaking second of it.

I feel like I had been waiting for Broken Juliet forever. Especially after that no so horrible cliffhanger in Bad Romeo. It was so good and I have been dying to figure out what the hell Ethan did to Cassie in the end. But reading through this story I really didn't care. There was so much story to be told for them. I don't think I've read too many books that have this important fact that is hinted at and makes me die to know, but at the same time not feeling so taunted by it that I want to skip the story to read it. I needed to devour every single morsel that Leisa Rayven had delivered to us in this story.
We get to see all the characters from the first book and we get to see the complete transformation of Cassie from pre-Ethan to the present time Cassie. I've not seen a better transition occur right before my eyes. I believe every single bit and reason as to why Cassie changed to a jaded, smoking, swearing woman. The transition from their earlier years to the present works great and flows seamlessly. I'm honestly not sure which story I enjoy more. I really just love it all.

He stops kissing and wraps around me, and I bury myself in him, my face in his neck. We just stand there for a while. Breathing each other in. Being. Still not fixed, but far less broken.

Like I said, the sexual tension in this book is amazing. I could FEEEEL it. Even when the sex was happening in the past I could still FEEL the tension between them. I could feel it in the end too. And when those sexual encounters happened ... Whew!! ... They were hot, and explosive. God!! I could read this book again for the chemistry between Cassie and Ethan.

“Loving you,” he says, “is the stupidest, most selfish thing I’ve ever done, but I can’t stop. God knows, I’ve tried.”

I really loved Ethan's transformation, too. We definitely get so see what happened to him and get a full explantion. And in the end we get this perfect couple who has met in the middle of new and old. I loved their story. Leisa did an amazing job of writing and at times it was just so freaking poetic! I don't think there are any other books that I highlighted more. I felt like I was highlighting the whole damn thing! The only negative is I wish I had a more thorough recap of the ending of Bad Romeo. I would get hints every now and then, but I feel like I would have had a better understanding of present Ethan and Cassie if I had a recap of the letter Ethan sent and where we left off. Other than, pure perfection!

Don't miss out on this excited sequel and perfect ending to Bad Romeo. Now excuse me while I go die waiting for next story by Leisa!! Enjoy!!!
BONUS SNIPPET

“You think I don’t love you?” he says as he steps away from the wall and draws up to his full height. “If I didn’t, do you think I’d be in hell right now? You think I like feeling like this? Like pushing you away isn’t ripping out parts of me? Fuck, Cassie, I know the right thing to do is to leave you alone. But when I think about doing that, it…” He grips his chest. “It fucking hurts. And I’m so sick of hurting. I thought you could make it better, but you only made it worse.” Everything he’s feeling is on his face. He can barely look me in the eyes, and it makes mine sting with tears. “You want me to say it? Yes, I love you. But you have no idea how many times I’ve wished I didn’t.”

Sanzana's Review

Hey, Jena. Remember when we were reading Bad Romeo and we got to the end of the book on our kindles, only we could swipe anymore since we had reached such an abrupt end? Yeah, I remember that. I remember how agonizing and frustrating it was.

Kind of like Broken Juliet. That. Fucking. Angst. Holy damn, the sexual tension is tooo much, too much I tell you for anyone to handle. That is the summary of this book. Angst and sexual tension mixed together to make a butt-load of emotions and two confused characters who are hurt, but are madly and deeply in love with each other. And no periods, or commas there, because it truly is a rush. A good rush, I guess.

Leisa, god, this woman just knows how to speak words and embed them in your head. She knows how to make your heart leap out, groan in frustration, and make your eyes flood with tears. Writers sorcery I tell you. Needless to say, I enjoyed this book, I want everyone I know to read it...well, those that can handle this book, that is.

I remember a little chat I had with Leisa about her last book and I asked her if she really did type "I love you" 1000 times. Unlike Ethan, she didn't (universal computer shortcut...copy & paste). But that does not make her a bad person. Her books make up for it. ;)

Kissing Madeline by Lex Martin Review

Sanzana: 5/5 Stars
Jena: 4.5/5 Stars
What’s the worst thing about wanting a sexy NFL football player? Everyone else wants him, too.

After catching my boyfriend getting deep-throated by a skanky cage girl, I’ve learned my lesson – never date a professional athlete. Never. Besides, I have more important things to worry about, like not blowing my shot to make it as a broadcast reporter. I won’t let anything get in my way, not even the new “it boy” of the NFL and my hot-as-hell neighbor.
What's the worst thing about getting death glares from his new neighbor? It doesn't make him want her any less.
I’ve worked my ass off to make it to the pros. The last thing I need is the complication of a relationship, especially since my last one was a total train wreck. But I can’t stop thinking about the feisty girl next door with the smart mouth. And I’d love nothing more than to show her what to do with that mouth.
Friends with benefits might be the best idea he’s ever had. Or the worst.

Kissing Madeline is a companion novel to DEAREST CLEMENTINE and FINDING DANDELION. Each book is a stand-alone.

Sanzana's Review:

Yes, yes, yesss! Daren's comeback is soooo amazing and now i'm sad to say I love him and Maddie more than Gavin & Clem! See, when we first heard of Daren in the first book, Dearest Clementine, he is a total dick for cheating on her. I never, ever like judging people for their mistakes, because you only know half the story, even if the "bad" person seemingly has an excuse.

But when we read about Daren in this book, it all makes sense. Yes, his actions and how he coped with his problems ended up breaking Clem, but Clem would have never found Gavin and Daren, Maddie. This book is a perfect example of never judging someone based on their past, nice job Lex!

Okay now that that is over, let's talk about the book in general. It is a dual p.o.v. so we hear the story and events from both Maddie and Daren. Madeline is beautiful, smart, and very cautious of the guys she meets. Somehow, Daren breaks her walls, and she lets him. She lets him pentrate her in every way possible and he's all she can think about. On the other hand, Daren has always been facinated by Maddie's quirkiness and personally (and her body, duh). As he spends more time with her, he realizes that this girl is more than that. She's scared, and she doesn't want him to mess her up, even if the two can work things out. And he wants her. Despite the concequences. Despite what other people may think. Despite how wrong they may be for each other.

Kissing Madeline is a must read if you have read all the previous books in the series. Even if you haven't read the first two (which you should have because, god, they're all just as amazing), this book is a standalone. I feel like this isn't the end of Lex Martin and she will have another story to come. Right now, i'm just going to reread this book as many times as I can.

p.s. The sex scenes? Mmm, yeah, I think my insides warmed up a lot in the book. A good 9.5 in the intensity of passion and chemistry these two had.

Jena's Review

I am so excited to have finally read this book. I feel like we have been waiting forever for Daren's story and I have to say that it was worth the wait. I love the Dearest Series hard. This book was up to a difficult challenge because Finding Dandelion was my favorite in the series and Clementine and Jax are my favorite characters. After this book... Clementine and Jax are still my favorite characters, but I think that Lex Martin really out-did herself with the story line this time around.

This book is considered new adult genre due to their ages and them just graduating college, but it definitely read like a contemporary romance. Maddie and Daren were just so mature that I usually forgot that they were only 22/23. I really enjoyed their characters and watching their relationship progress. There was enough side story to carry the book through, but through it all, it never went too far away from Maddie and Daren's relationship. This was one of those books that I just LOVED watching them fall in love.

Of course we can't go through a whole review without mentioning the steamy as hell sex scenes that Lex is amazing at writing. It is just wonderful and enticing and hot!! I loved every dirty word, ass slap, and tug of hair. Of course the shower scene too. I love shower sex scenes. I was won over then regardless of what happened after that. Haha

Throughout the book, we catch glimpses of the rest of the gang and get caught up on them. Especially Jax, since he is Daren's best friend. Which makes me happy ... because I LOVE Jax. The side characters work perfectly to support the story without taking away from it. I have to say I'm sad to say this is the last book in the series because through it all I was curious as to who would be next in the story. But I am beyond excited to see where Lex Martin goes next.

If you're still reading this review and haven't one clicked yet, then for the love of God, STOP!! GO!! One-click now! This is a story and series that will stick with you forever. Enjoy!

That is until she accidentally signs up for a romance writing class and needs material for her latest assignment. Sexy RA Gavin Murphy is more than happy to play the part of book boyfriend to help Clem find some inspiration, even if that means making out...in the name of research, of course. As Gavin and Clem grow closer, they get entangled in the mystery surrounding a missing Boston University student, and Clem unwittingly becomes a possible target. Gavin tries to show Clem she can handle falling in love again, but she knows she has to be careful because her heart’s at stake…and maybe even her life.

FINDING DANDELION (#2 - Jax and Dani) Amazon | Nook | Kobo | Paperback

Finding Dandelion Official CoverWhen soccer all-star Jax Avery collides with Dani Hart on his twenty-first birthday, their connection is instantaneous and explosive. For the first time in years, Jax isn’t interested in his usual hit-it and quit-it approach. But Dani knows better. Allowing herself a night to be carefree and feel the intensity of their attraction won’t change anything when it comes to dealing with a player. So when Jax doesn’t recognize Dani the next time he sees her, it shouldn’t be a total shock. The fact that he’s her new roommate’s brother? That’s a shock. Dani doesn’t regret that night with Jax, just the need to lie about it. Since her roommate has made it clear what she thinks about her brother’s “type” of girl, the last thing Dani wants is to admit what happened. Jax knows he’s walking a fine line on the soccer team. One more misstep and he’s off the roster, his plans to go pro be damned. Except he can’t seem to care. About anything… except for the one girl who keeps invading his dreams. Despite Jax’s fuzzy memory of his hot hookup with his sister’s friend, he can’t stay away from her, even if that means breaking his own rules. But there are bigger forces at work–realities that can end Dani’s college career and lies that can tear them apart. Jax realizes what he’s losing if Dani walks away, but will he sacrifice his future to be with her? And will she let him if he does?

Pretty Pink Ribbons by KL Grayson Review

Jena's: 5/5 Stars
Can be read as a standalone novel
**Contains sensitive subject matters**

Dying . . .
Dead . . .
Deceased . . .

It doesn’t matter how many times I say it or how many different names I give it, it still means the same thing. One of these days I’ll be nothing but a passing memory, a familiar face in a forgotten photo. But there are three things I need before this life of mine ends . . .

I need to tell him I love him more than life itself.
I need to feel the strength of his arms wrapped around me just one more night.
Most of all, I need him to forgive me.

Eight years ago I broke the heart of the only man I’ve ever loved and today I’m moving home in hopes that he’ll let me put it back together. I’m not sure how many breaths I have left, but I’ll use each and every last one fighting for what I destroyed.

My name is Laney Jacobs and this is my journey.
Jena's Review:

This book ... this book  *sigh* ... What do I say about such a phenomenal book? I fell in love with KL Grayson when she came along in a book club and asked for people to review her book. It will forever be one of the best decisions I have ever made in my book journey. I read Where We Belong and I loved it, so when Pretty Pink Ribbons came along and my man Levi was in it, I knew it would be another book I would love. Man was I wrong.

Love isn't a strong enough word for what I feel for this book. It is so much more than that. This story moved me and attached to my emotions in a much deeper way. I'm not going to lie, I was expecting some hot steamy dirty talk loving from Levi. He was a fun loving sexy guy in Where We Belong. My goodness ... he is so much more than that in this book. He has so much to give and I understand how he became the way he is. Don't get me wrong ... there was a good amount of hot steamy dirty talk loving going on. He is still Levi. LOL! But he is also so much more!

I love his relationship with Laney and the prologue does a great job of setting up the story. I loved watching them reconnect again. I loved watching them fall in love again. Or at least admit their love again. Once again, I loved the side characters again. This is me DYING to read Benny's story!! So don't get too excited about Benny while reading this because I've already claimed him at mine. MINE!!! LOL!

But I think the thing that made this book so unique was Laney and her battle with cancer (I don't think I am giving anything away, since the title is Pretty Pink Ribbons - Breast Cancer.) She is an amazing woman and I think that is why I connected to this story on such a deeper level. This isn't just a romance. I understood her as a woman and the emotional battle of what she was dealing with losing as a woman. Gosh, jut writing this reminds of all the emotions that welled up from this story. There are so many powerful moments that will forever be part of my memory.

The story is so beautifully written and KL digs deep to make you understand every aspect of it. I will forever love her for this beautiful, heart wrenching story. I will never hesitate to one-click/ pre- order her books. He talent for writing a story in a way that drags you in is remarkable and I can NOT wait for next books to come. ... ENJOY!! .... But seriously ... Benny is mine!! ;)

P.S. Bear with me on all the teasers ... I highlighted the hell out of this book and needed to make them all into teasers!!! ALL. OF. THEM!!!!

Sanzana's Review:

Damn, well, would you look at all those teasers from above! That's great for me, since I haven't made any of my own teasers for this book.

Pretty Pink Ribbons is about a girl with cancer, but it isn't just about that. Like Whitney Barbetti's Ten Below Zero, I was afraid to read it, since I don't do well with cancer related stories. PPR is written through the eyes of a girl with cancer and then man who's heart belongs to her and only her.

Yeah, sorry guys, Levi is mine.
Levi is the definition of the kind of man everyone would dream to date and marry. I don't know anyone who has had cancer but the way Laney would describe her journey through her struggles made me want to reach over and hug her. It made me feel terrible, but most importantly, it made this book real.

Levi was Laney's rock. He supported her. Made her feel even though she couldn't, even though she wouldn't. He didn't treat her differently. His love was only stronger. Levi is the perfect example of what a girl needs when she's going through a hard time, and KL created him. Beautifully, in fact.

Speaking of KL, this woman is amazing. It shows how much she knows about cancer and every one of her feelings when her sister had to fight her battle. She showed us that women are incredibly strong people, even if they don't have muscles to prove it.

“I wish it was someone else,” she croaks, swallowing hard. “There are thousands of bad people in the world, but it happened to you.” I watch her eyes fill with tears and then I look away. It’s pathetic of me really; that I’m unable to look my best friend in the face when it’s obvious that she is struggling with this almost as much as I am. But I’ve cried my fair share of tears and although I’m certain my tear ducts have yet to dry up, I don’t want to cry tonight. Somehow I know that if I watch Mia break, then I’ll shatter right along with her. “I’m glad it’s me.” She gasps, startled by my words, and I rush to try and explain. “If it wasn’t me, it would be someone else, and I would never wish this upon someone else. You know that saying that God will only give you what you can handle?” She nods. “Sometimes I tell myself that he just thinks I’m really strong and I can handle it, whereas someone else couldn’t.” “Does that help?” she asks. “Does that make you feel better about it?” “No, but it eases my mind. Sometimes when I’m having a good day, it brings me peace, however temporary it may be. But no, it doesn’t make me feel better.” “Peace,” she whispers, seemingly trying the word on for size. “I want you to have peace.”
